China-Aligned TA419 Targets U.S. AI Policy Experts with Microsoft AitM Phishing
A new China-nexus cyber espionage group, TA419, is conducting credential phishing campaigns targeting U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) experts. The group impersonates prominent economists, AI policymakers, and even an Anthropic employee to lure victims from think tanks, universities, and legal organizations. These sophisticated ‘Adversary-in-the-Middle’ (AitM) phishing attacks aim to steal credentials and gain access to sensitive information related to U.S. AI policy. This activity underscores the growing focus of state-sponsored actors on AI-related intelligence gathering.
