CISA has issued a warning regarding a significant increase in cyberattacks targeting internet-exposed programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the U.S. water and wastewater systems (WWS) sector. A coordinated cyberattack recently targeted over 30 Minnesota community water systems, causing a plant outage and communication failures in some instances. These attacks highlight the severe vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and the need for enhanced OT/ICS security measures.
